Noon Year's Eve

The Giving Tree

Each year the library purchases as many children's books and craft supplies as possible. 
 
This Christmas season if you are interested in helping us replenish our supplies please stop by and select a gift tag from our "Giving Tree."

Step 1: Select a gift tag. They represent beloved children's books that need replacing as well new titles and craft supplies. Hardcover books are requested.

Step 2: Bring your purchased item to the circulation desk and we will replace your gift tag with a thank you.

If you are interested in participating, make sure to stop by the library this December!

Special Holiday Storytimes

Join us during the month of December for our holiday storytime programs!

Books & Babies
Tuesdays 10:00-10:20 a.m.
December 4th, 11th, and 18th 
Books & Babies is a lap-sit program designed to introduce children (6 months - 2 years) to language and early literacy. Babies sit with their caregiver and model the activities presented through simple finger plays, songs, stories and nursery rhymes.

Pre-School Storytime
Tuesdays 10:45-11:15 a.m.
December 4th, 11th, and 18th
Storytime is directed at children ages 3-5 and includes books, songs, finger plays and crafts.

Toddler Tales
Wednesdays 10:00-10:30 a.m.
December 5th and 12th

Storytime on December 19th has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience.  

The Toddler Tales program is a blend of Books & Babies and the Pre-School Storytime activities. A variety of stories are combined with songs, rhymes, finger plays, crafts and free play. This program is appropriate for children 2-4 years old.

8th Annual Gingerbread Program

Come out for some guaranteed Christmas fun! We'll be making our own gingerbread houses from graham crackers, frosting, and various candies. Open to children 4 years old and up. Registration begins November 1st, space is limited.

Summer Reading Survey

Parents, caregivers, and participants in the 2012 summer reading program, please help us out!

This six week session is recommended for
babies 6 - 24 months old and their caregiver. Each class is 30 minutes long and has a weekly theme. We will use music, books, and playful activities to help
hearing babies and adults learn simple ASL signs while having fun. Handouts will be provided with the signs for that theme.

Train Table Donated by Touch of Grayce

Exciting things are happening in the children's room this week! Touch of Grayce, a gift shop on main street Geneseo, donated their train set and play board to the library. We still needed a table to set up the train in and, Mike Costa, generously donated his time and skill to build a train table for the new set. Thank you so much for your generosity and support of the library! Please be sure to thank the staff at Touch of Grayce the next time you visit. The children's room has been rearranged to accommodate the train table and to provide more space. Stop in and play!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Join SUNY Geneseo's English Honor Society as we read tales from the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss! We'll read classics like There's a Wocket in My Pocket, If I Ran the Zoo, and Horton Hears a Who! We'll make our own crazy arts and crafts in celebration of Dr. Seuss and snacks will follow. Best for ages 4 and up (remember Dr. Seuss stories can be long :-)

Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Thursday, February 23rd
6:30-7:30 pm Ages 3-8
Bring your stuffed animal to the library for a special storytime. When the stories are done make your stuffed toy a name tag, tuck it in, and give it a kiss goodbye because its going to spend the night at the library. Return Friday afternoon (Feb. 24th anytime between 1:30 and 3:00 pm) to pick up your toy and watch a slide show of what they did while the library was closed! Paws for Reading



On February 23rd from 2:00-3:00 pm we will be offering an exciting new program "Paws for Reading" at the Wadsworth Library!

Certified therapy dogs will be visiting the library and looking for children to share stories with them. If your child is a newly independent or reluctant reader (or loves reading and dogs!) we'd encourage you to sign up for a time slot and come spend some time reading to our canine friends!

2012 Newbery and Caldecott Award Winners



 The 2012 Newbery Medal winner is Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos. 
The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

The 2012 Caldecott Medal winner is A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

"Libri READS" Open House

This past December the Wadsworth Library was awarded a BOOKS FOR CHILDREN matching grant from the Friends of Wadsworth Library and the Libri Foundation. Over 80 new fiction and non-fiction titles were gifted to the library! Please celebrate with us!

OPEN HOUSE
Thursday, January 26th from 6:30-7:30 pm

There will be a brief "ceremony"followed by Miss Sarah reading several of the new picture books, as well as a time for crafts and refreshments. Please join us, attendance is recorded and submitted to the grant foundation as part of our final report and we're hoping for a nice turn out!
