New Children's Music

Are you tired of listening to the same cheesy children's music over and over?
Would you like to listen to something that's appealing to you as well as your children?

Check out these new music CD's at the Wadsworth Library!

Are We There Yet? - The Verve Pipe
I loved this CD. Fun and upbeat rock tunes, enjoyable for both parents and kids. My personal favorites were "Scavenger Hunt" and "When Gramma Says No." Highly recommended.

Bubble Ride - Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys
As many of you know I am a HUGE Laurie Berkner fan and I frequently use her music during storytime. Trien's musical style reminds me very much of Berkner's bouncy upbeat tunes and it will make you want to get up and dance. Some favorite tracks are "Moomooheehawbaabaaneigh," and "Free to be You and Me." Also "Five Little Monkeys" and "Let Us Sing"from her album Carnival Day.

Disney's Frozen Soundtrack
Ok, if your children have seen this movie you may already be singing this album to death BUT if you haven't seen the movie be sure to try it out. I'm thrilled that Disney is once again including music in their movies.  Also, Idina Menzel is the voice of Elsa. Enough said.

Fun Food Songs - Raffi
Raffi's first album in eight years features a collection of food related songs originally released on his earlier albums. Favorites such as "Peanut Butter Sandwich", "Bananaphone" and "Going on a Picnic" are included as well as other traditional children's songs.

Laurie Berkner Lullabies (available April 2014)
It's Laurie Berkner's soon-to-be-released lullaby album! If you are already a LB fan be sure to check it out from the library we have a copy pre-ordered. If you're new to Laurie Berkner check out several of her older albums while you're waiting. I'd recommend starting with The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band, Victor Vito or Buzz Buzz.

Turn Turn Turn - Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell
I had my doubts about musicians Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell teaming up on a children's album but I was pleasantly surprised. Songs such as "Sail Away Ladies," "Turn! Turn! Turn!" (with updated lyrics by Pete Seeger's wife Toshi) and "Wim Wam Waddle" had me tapping my toes and singing along. They both have several other albums for children try Dan Zanes' Family Dance and Catch That Train or Mitchell's You Are My Little Bird and Sunny Day.

Still more albums to try:
Bandwagon - Joanie Leeds
Beethoven's Wig 4 - Dance Along Symphonies
Catch the Moon - Lisa Loeb and Elizabeth Mitchell
Jim Gill's Irrational Anthem - Jim Gill
Jungle Gym - Justin Roberts
Kidquake - The Not Its
Mr. Diddie Wah Diddie - Randy Kaplan
Putumayo Kids Acoustic Dreamland
Rock of All Ages - Daddy A Go Go
Tumble Bee - Laura Veirs
